Lies, Damn Lies, & Statistics - 1650

Attached is a section of a spreadsheet I've produced with all the finishing data for the 1650 scenario of games. Many thanks to Middle Earth Games for supplying me with the information. Less detailed results, but a larger sample size of previous GSI 1650 scenario games, can be seen [here].

Analysis

So what do the new figures tell us?

1) Harlequin have completed 42 games in the UK of which...

24 have been won by the Dark Servants
And 18 by the Free Peoples.

So the Dark servants win 57% of the time. This is an reduction on the previous win percentage of 66%.

2) Of the Victories for the Dark Servants...

The Blind Sorcerer has won 3 out of 24. A surprising statistic given the general weakness of the position.
The Cloud Lord has only come out on top once.
The Dark Lts are the top starting DS nation to win but the Long Rider has the best overall record.
The Easterlings have benefited the most from declaring DS. Winning 6 times.

3) Of the Victories for the Free Peoples...

The Noldo have won 8 times out of 18. They have placed in 4 of the other 10 free victories. It seems that if the Free win, then the Noldo generally come top.

There's also some less detailed results for previous GSI games. The larger sample size however, gives a better indication of the win/lose ratio for the two sides. Many thanks to Jeremy Richman for supplying the data.

166 have been won by the Dark Servants
And only 92 by the Free Peoples.

So the Dark Servants win 64% of the time.

2) Of the Victories for the Dark Servants. There's a good even spread of winning nations.

What do the results tell us? Basically they confirm what everyone has always known. The Noldo are supremely powerful for the Free People. If the Free People win, the Noldo usually win.

The results confirm that Harad and the Corsairs are super powers. Regardless of these nations declarations, the game is heavily influenced in favour of the side they join. It's also worth remembering that in approximately 10% of all 1650 games, the Easterlings are removed at game start and a 12 vs 12 pre-aligned neutral game begins (a grudge match). Therefore, taking this into account, the Easterlings are probably as powerful as the Corsairs and Haradwaith.

The five Neutrals account for 28% of all points. The ten Free People nations account for 27% with the remaining 45% of being picked up by the Dark Servants. It seems if the Free want to win, they have to win over the neutrals (especially one or more of the powerful southern nations).

Certain nations always struggle. Rhudaur, the Dragon Lord, the Woodmen statistically do badly.

The search is on for an Eothraim winner. Can anyone lay claim to a victory with this nation? Perhaps you are the only one?

I was the Duns in game 150. GSI cancelled the game after 3 turns because the FP (I think) dropped en-masse because (they claimed) that GSI lost all of their turns (ie, about half the team special serviced a
bulk of the first three turns).
